A day after a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck the region, recovery operations are underway in both Bangkok, Thailand, and Mandalay, Myanmar, with the scale of devastation becoming increasingly clear.
In Bangkok, emergency crews are racing against time to search through the wreckage of a collapsed high-rise building, where more than 100 people remain trapped. Desperate families have gathered near the site, anxiously awaiting news of their loved ones as rescue workers comb through the debris.

Meanwhile, in Myanmar, the situation appears even more dire, with at least 1,000 fatalities reported. The country—one of Asia’s poorest and still struggling with instability following a 2021 military coup—lacks the infrastructure to effectively respond to disasters of this magnitude. International aid has begun arriving, with multiple nations sending specialized rescue teams to assist in relief efforts.

The earthquake, which struck with violent force, has left both nations grappling with collapsed buildings, damaged roads, and widespread panic. As aftershocks continue to rattle the region, authorities warn that the death toll could still rise.
